When you have a long relationship with a client, it’s useful to pause and reflect on your relationship from time to time, and look both for areas that are being well handled, and for areas that might need improvement. With this in mind, Tuesday Consulting approached IDC for a client review cognisant of our relationship that stretches back, to 2008.
Over the past decade and a half, we have done a number of assignments for them, and the review of Tuesday Consulting’s services reflects that we not only understand the organisation and its culture, but have a solid grasp of the broader organisational strategy. We also understand their strategy from a South African and Continental perspective – they take a proactive stance to be active on the continent beyond our borders.
The review shows that we have an overall positive relationship with the IDC, and they commented that we appear to have immersed ourselves in truly understanding who and what the IDC is all about. We always understand both their mandate – and ours – when searching for candidates, and that has differentiated us.
What many don’t understand about IDC, is that it plays a complex role in the economy. IDC is so much more than just a small SOE – which is how the organisation is perceived externally. The reality is that IDC’s scope of work is much broader than most realise, as they are intricately involved in developing industries, and creating employment in a variety of sectors.
Tuesday has brought candidates who understand the remit, strategy, organisational journey and culture of IDC, who understand how niche the IDC’s work is, and how complex the organisation is.
From a relationship perspective, IDC has said they work well with Tuesday Consulting. They value that we discuss our search strategy and offer flexible solutions, aligning candidates carefully with the organisation. IDC has a high-performance culture, and it’s a tough environment, but we have managed to attract candidates who understand that.
They also value that we have ongoing conversations with them, and engage outside of assignments, to the degree that we have become an extension of the employer brand.
In terms of timelines, we also strive to deliver within their timelines and engage regularly to mitigate challenges and discuss them with the client.
Finally, they note that it’s becoming more and more difficult to attract talent, given both the skills gap and the skills war. Their partnership with Tuesday has helped them to navigate this successfully, which is why we are their first port of call.
